Part of our “From Backstage to Center Stage” initiative, “A New Definition of Dance” provides school and community workshops, classes, and performances by world-renowned dancers with disabilities to showcase their talents and help breakdown negative stereotypes of people with disabilities.
“A New Definition of Dance” began in October 2015 as the dream of our former Board member, Dr. Merry Lynn Morris, a member of the Dance faculty at the University of South Florida. Her hope was that “A New Definition of Dance” would serve as a powerful educational tool, challenging, revising, and broadening our existing perspectives on human existence, experience, and ability.
This program has grown over the years to include more artists from more countries and has expanded to other cities in Florida. Our most recent event was November 2018, when we brought the breakdance crew, ILL-Abilities, to Tampa, Jacksonville, and Miami.
